Bobby Darin was a singer, actor and musician known for his hit "Splish Splash" in 1958. However, it was not his only major accomplisment: won a Golden Globe for her supporting role in Point in 1962 and had great stage and screen hits before dying in 1973, when he deveoped blood poisoningHe grew up poor in the Bronx and battled rheumatic fever several times in his youth, which led to a weakened heart. He grew up with an interest in music, and graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, then went on to attend Hunter College but later dropped out and just performed.
His career took off when he was under Atlantic Records when he wrote and recorded "Splish Splash" in 1958. He wrote the song because DJ Murray Kaufman bet him he couldn't write a song that started off, "Splish, splash, I was takin' a bath," a line Murray's mother suggested. He did, and it sold over a million copiesDarin died December 20, 1973 at 37 after he failed to take his heart medicine and went in for a dental visit, and wound up with blood poisoning. He died minutes after an intense heart procedure to fix his weakened valves.
