declaration of independence text

Everyone makes mistakes, and I mean everyone ... even Thomas Jefferson. The Library of Congress unveiled for the first time last Friday that Thomas Jefferson "a slip" when drafting the declaration of independence from monarchical rule in England.Preservation scientists working for the Library of Congress discovered that used in the earlier drafts of the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson, the word "subjects" to refer to the American people.

To Jefferson’s credit, he recovered quickly from the gaffe, crossed out the demeaning word and replaced it with the more politically correct term, “citizens”, which he used profusely in the Declaration’s final draft.Just a little trivia to make this year’s Independence Day even more meaningful and memorableHappy 4th of July.
