President Obama is paying respect to the U.S. war dead on Monday in a ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., south of Chicago.Respect is one of hundreds across the country to honor the fallen on Memorial Day.Vice President Biden put the wreath on the tomb of the unknown in Arlington National Cemetery near Washington DC, Obama participated in a tradition last year during its first year of his presidencyThe Lincoln cemetery is one of the newer cemeteries run by the National Cemetery Administration, which manages the burial plots for honorably discharged troops and their families.Lincoln cemetery was dedicated in 1999. It has just 17 troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The majority of those interred there are World War II veterans who died in old age.Obama spoke at the Lincoln cemetery in 2005. He and his family spent the holiday weekend at their home in Chicago.At the Vietnam Veterans Wall, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was holding a separate ceremony.
